General Info for receiving Russian TV and Radio:
The two most interesting satellites aimed at Western Europe that have Russian Channels are the Sirius and the Hotbird satellite. On both satellites you can find Russian channels that are Free To Air (FTA) and encoded in Viaccess. The encoded channels on the Sirius are part of the Viasat package.

The Free to Air (FTA) channels can be receiver with a digital satellite receiver. To watch the Viaccess channels you need a digital receiver with a viaccess embedded card reader, or with a Common Interface (CI) slot in which you can insert a Conditional Access Module (CAM). The CAM needs to be a Viaccess cam in this case, preferably a Viaccess Redcam.
In The Netherlands, 2 subscribtion packages are for sale.
1) NTV Mir (Sirius) smartcard, price 60 euro per year plus 25 euro registration
2) RTVi card for the four Viaccess 2 channels on the Hotbird, price approx. 140 euro per 6 month
For those with a Swedish address, it is possible to order a smartcard for the Viasat package and to opt for the 2 Russian Channels NTV Mir and ORT-int on the Sirius. Price is about 100 SEK a month for the Viasat Base package plus 150 SEK a month for the Russian Channels.With a Latvia address, you can order similar packages at Viasat Latvia. Note that the Viasat packages are only possible for residents of the mentioned countries.
To receive the Hotbird or Sirius satellite you need a dish of the size between 60 and 80 cm. It is also possible to use a multi-focus dish (with two LNB's), in that case, at least 80 cms is necessary. The costs of the materials when obtained new is between 250 for a low budget FTA installation and 500-1000 euro's for a high end motorized solution that includes Personal Video Recorder options.
